Why a Leadership Blog?

The Chidsey Center for Leadership Development at Davidson College is embarking on a new journey – a blog that is dedicated to engaging a broad audience in leadership thinking and dialogue – and we sincerely hope you’ll join us in this endeavor.

We know conversations, engagement and dialogue lead to new learning, and we are exploring this platform as a means to engage more people more often in leadership conversations and thinking. This is tied to our Center’s core purpose, which is to prepare students for lives of leadership. Part of living a life of leadership is fostering curiosity and learning new ways of seeing the world. This blog is intended to bolster that curiosity in the following ways:

  1. Exploration: Offering ideas and musings, sharing trends and emerging concepts, and inviting conversation around interesting questions.
  2. Experiences: Highlighting experiences, great work and interesting people that can provide insights into leadership from lived experiences.
  3. Application: Offering tools, methods and models for leadership that can be applied to your life and practiced.

The content will be delivered using multiple formats that are aimed at engaging multiple modes of learning – specifically alternating between written and video blogs. You will also hear from many voices as we will have authors and contributors from multiple lenses – students, staff, faculty, community members and alumni.

It is our sincere hope that you will engage with the material by offering thoughtful comments, questions and even blog posts of your own.

  1. Dear Mr. Newell: I recently retired from the utility industry where I taught and managed leadership development programs to all levels of leaders from first line supervisors to executives. My expertise in leadership development spans several decades and the lessons learned have contributed to developing numerous leaders in the U.S. and worldwide.

    I am excited to see that Davidson has the Chidsey Center and would like to learn more about it. If possible, could I come by sometime and discuss the Center’s programs with you? I live just a few miles away in Cornelius and have a very flexible schedule.
